COMMITMENT

We always want to get better or improve in one aspect or the other in our endeavours be it academics, work, religion est. but fail to get them accomplished then immediately we conclude that we are failures or that its impossible to be done. No it is not it’s just that we are not committed enough or that we do not know the way out. To become the person you want to be you need to have a great tenacity, which comes from a solid commitment; one thing we do not realise is that we make commitments daily without knowing we are making commitment, and one critical thing about commitment is that its an investment that always bring a change either positively or the otherwise, therefore we need to be cautious of the commitments we make.
Commitment Helps You Overcome Many of Life’s Obstacles.

You’ve got problems, I’ve got problems, and even all races have got problems, because sometimes we do think that it’s only we Africans that as problems. The question is, how are you going to deal with them?
One of the most common mistakes and one of the costliest is thinking that success is due to some genius, some magic something or other which we do not possess. Success is generally due to holding on and failure let go. You decide to learn a language, start a business, take a new challenge, and train yourself physically. Will it be a success or failure? It depends upon how much pluck and perseverance that word “decide” contains. The decision that nothing will overrule, the grip that nothing can detach will bring success.

Your Commitment Will Be Tested Every Day
I think many people see commitment as an event, something that is done in a moment. They say “I do” in a wedding ceremony. They shake hands to close a business deal. But the commitment doesn’t end with that decision; it’s just getting started. And you better believe that any time you make a commitment to something, it will be tested. That happens in any number of ways:
* Experience Failure: perhaps the greatest challenge to commitment is failure. Olympic gold medallist Mary Lou Retton says, “Achieving that goal is a good feeling, but to get there you have to also get through the failures. You’ve got to be able to pick yourself up and continue.” Failing In an aspect does not make you a failure because if you look at the meaning of the word FAIL it simply means FIRST ATTEMPT IN LEARNING. So do not look down on yourself.
* Having to Stand Alone: when you want to accomplish something, people will try to distract you. They will challenge you. They may even try to get you to compromise your values. It may be unintentional. It may be because they’re worried that if you grow, they will feel left behind. In those moments, you need to ask yourself ,”Who am I trying to please?” if you desire to please yourself by following through on your commitments to yourself, there will be times you need to stand alone.

* Facing Deep Commitment: let’s be honest, a lot of things can go wrong in life. How are you going to react in the face of those disappointments?
When things go wrong, when life gets rough, when the pain becomes great, will you be able to keep going? If you determine to make and keep proper commitments daily, you greatly improve your chances of being able to carry on. As Abraham Lincoln said, “Always bear in mind that your own resolution to success is more important than any other thing.”

DETERMINE TO PAY THE PRICE
Once you count the cost, then you have to decide whether you are really willing to do what it takes to follow through. U.S. Senator Sam Nunn said, “You have to pay the price. You will find that everything in life exacts a price, and you will have to decide whether the price is worth the prize.”

STAY IN YOUR STRENGHT ZONE
People don’t pay for average. People don’t go looking for a mediocre restaurant or an average school which will limit there children’s dreams. Employers don’t award the contract to the salesman known as Mr.Average. Nobody says, “Let’s give the contract to the company that will do a merely adequate job.”
If you don’t already have a good handle on your strengths, then you may want to explore some of these suggestions. They’re based on what I did to find mine:
* Trial and Error: Nothing teaches you more than your successes and failures. Any time something seems to be all “trail,” and you make a lot of mistakes, it’s probably time to move on. But you’ve got to take the risk of failing to find your successes.
* The Counsel of Others: Asking others to evaluate your effectiveness is not always fun, but it is always helpful. Be sure to choose people who don’t have an agenda- other than to help you.
* Personality Tests: They help to clarify some of your natural weaknesses you aren’t aware of.
* Personal Experience: You really get a feeling for whatever you do by doing it repeatedly. Just remember this: Experience isn’t always the best teacher, evaluated experience is!
British Prime Minister William Gladstone said, “he is a wise man who wastes no energy on pursuits for which he is not fitted; and he is wiser still who from among the things he can do well, chooses and resolutely follows the best.” The more you stay in your strength zone, the greater your productivity and the greater your ability to reach your potential.
